Greensboro Academy is a free public charter school serving kindergarten through 8th grade.

Founded on academic excellence, moral focus, parental partnership, and student responsibility, Greensboro Academy is a school like no other – one that can lead to a lifetime of success. We set high standards, focus on real-world skills, problem solving, and how to be a good citizen. Our exceptional teachers meet students at their ability level and challenge them to go beyond. Our students also draft a social contract that reinforces their commitment to their school, their teacher, and each other.

See what happens when hard work, personal responsibility, and a nurturing school community combine to create one exceptional experience. Founded on academic excellence, moral focus, parental partnership, and student responsibility, Greensboro Academy is a school like no other—one that can lead your child to a lifetime of success.

Virtues such as respect, integrity, and compassion are central to our school community. In fact, our entire school focuses on a new virtue each month. This helps students learn the importance of making good choices in life.

When parents, teachers, and students work together, they form a powerful triangle of success. For this reason, parents are always welcome to stop by our school and join us in the classroom. Our teachers also make a point of being available to discuss your child’s progress or address concerns. For us, parental partnership is key to a strong school community.

Academic excellence is teachers working closely with students to shape their critical thinking skills. It’s a strong emphasis on the fundamentals, such as math, reading, science, and social studies. And it’s teachers setting academic growth goals, developing learning plans, tracking individual progress, and adjusting instruction when necessary.

We provide a safe and emotionally secure learning environment. This means maintaining strict safety measures, such as keeping exterior doors locked and requiring all visitors to check in when they arrive. At the same time, our teachers establish strong relationships with students. This includes greeting them as they arrive each day. Students also draft a social contract that reinforces their commitment to their school, their teachers, and each other.

Students must learn to be accountable for their actions. This means completing assignments, participating in classroom discussions, behaving respectfully, and following our rules and procedures. Our “no excuses” approach helps kids learn at a young age that strong character is developed through personal responsibility.

As I move into my 3rd year serving as the principal of Greensboro Academy, I have been reflecting upon the many parts of Greensboro Academy that I have grown to appreciate.  I am truly grateful to work within a school that strives for academic excellence for all of the students that we serve, for a Board that has helped to steer the school for many years, for an outstanding and committed group of instructors and school staff members, and for a parent body that embraces the school and the ideals that we uphold.

Every parent at Greensboro Academy is a Boosters member.  Our Boosters organization is far and away the best organized and orchestrated that I have ever had the opportunity to work with.  There is not a classroom, an instructor, a staff member, or an individual student that is not positively impacted through the efforts of our Boosters organization.  It would be fair to say that the success that Greensboro Academy has achieved is due to the partnership that our Boosters organization has with our school.

I would like to welcome you to this newly developed website.  We have an opportunity to work together in order to create the very best learning environment for your children, and for our collective Greensboro Academy children.  The Boosters organization is a wonderful way to become involved and to be part of the overall school community.
